history
TriStrata's founder Dr. Martin M. "John" Atalla pioneered the development of our comprehensive solution that protects information as securely as money. After a pioneering career with Bell Laboratories, Hewlett Packard Associates and Hewlett Packard Laboratories, Dr. Atalla started the Atalla Corporation in 1973 to address the data security problems of banking and financial institutions.
Dr. Atalla invented the technology that became known as the "Atalla Box" which still secures the majority of all Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) worldwide. Dr. Atalla also invented the process by which the Personal Identification Number (PIN) became the standard form of identification for the banking industry. In fact he has been often referred to as the "Father of the PIN." After these achievements Dr. Atalla merged the Atalla Corporation with Tandem Computers in 1987 and retired.
The challenge of protecting information in cyberspace brought Dr. Atalla out of retirement in 1993. After an initial research and development phase he founded TriStrata in 1996 to deliver a comprehensive information security implementation that protects, controls and tracks all information vital to that organization's success as it conducts business over insecure networks.
